PROGRAM TOPIC
If you've ever wondered where those electrons come from when you flip on a light at home, this tour is for you. (For the record, those electrons don't come from or go to anywhere – they just jiggle back and forth a lot.) Please join us for a tour of the new Lodi Energy Center, owned and operated by the Northern California Power Agency (NCPA). Founded in 1968 and headquartered in Roseville, California, NCPA is a not-for-profit joint powers agency that represents and provides support for member communities and districts in Northern and Central California. NCPA members are listed on their website.
The Lodi Energy Center is one of the first in the U.S. of a new generation of highly efficient, gas-fired generating plants that pair the benefits of efficient combined cycle operation with quick (30 minute) startup times to better integrate variable renewable energy resources from wind and solar power plants.
We'll meet at the parking lot at the power plant where we'll receive safety instructions, followed by a plant tour and a discussion of how the plant works, and how it fits into NCPA's overall mix of power generating resources. We'll finish with pizza at the plant for an early dinner.
